Jorge Claros scored a stoppage time winner to lift Honduras to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador and into the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Claros scored in the second minute of stoppage time, controlling a pass from Edder Delgado in the penalty area and smashing the ball past Salvadoran keeper Dagoberto Portillo.
With their second win in two matches Honduras top the Group B standings with six points. They became the second team to secure a quarter-final spot, after Group A leaders Panama on Thursday.
In the first match of the Group B double-header, Jean Eudes Maurice scored twice to lead Haiti to a 2-0 upset victory over Trinidad and Tobago. The win, after a loss to Honduras in their tournament opener, kept Haiti in the hunt for a quarter-final berth.
Haiti used their speed to good advantage to pressure the Trinidad goal, and Maurice opened the scoring with a shot that beat Trinidad keeper Jan Michael Williams. He added the second goal after the interval, pouncing on a loose ball after Williams had deflected a shot.
The winners of the competition will battle the 2015 champions for a place in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
