Owen Coyle was on Friday named as the new manager at English Championship side Wigan Athletic, succeeding Roberto Martinez who left for Everton.
Coyle, 46, was sacked as Bolton boss last October but has been handed the task of getting FA Cup winners Wigan back into the Premier League at the first time of asking following relegation last season.
"Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the appointment of new manager Owen Coyle," said a statement on the Wigan website. Following discussions with the club on Friday afternoon, the 46-year-old has now agreed terms to become the 37th manager of the club and begins work immediately"
Coyle, who has signed a one-year rolling contract, took Burnley to the Premier League and was one of 50 candidates interviewed for the Wigan job. Martinez has taken over from David Moyes, who succeeds Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
