Australian A-League Golden Boot winner Daniel McBreen will remain with champions Central Coast Mariners next season after signing a contract extension, the club said on Monday.
McBreen, 36, scored 19 goals last season, including two in two matches in the Mariners' Championship-winning finals series campaign.
"There was a lot of talk about clubs overseas and other A-League teams, but nothing really materialised that I was happy with and I am so happy here," McBreen said.
“You don’t want to win the league and then everyone disappear and then fall away the next season.
“We’ve got aspirations to defend the Championship, and we’ll have a few other goals that we want to get as well, so we’ll be working hard to be as strong as ever (next season).”
McBreen's retention follows the retirement of Dutch defender Patrick Zwaanswijk and reports of interest from European clubs in the club's young stars Mat Ryan, Bernie Ibini and Trent Sainsbury.
