Benitez double puts America top

Christian Benitez scored twice as Club America overtook Tigres Monterrey at the top of the Clausura table by rallying to a dramatic 4-2 win at Pachuca.

America found themselves 2-0 down thanks to goals from Angel Reyna (12) and Fernando Cavenaghi (49) but Christian Bermudez scored on the hour mark, five minutes after stepping off the bench, and Benitez netted five minutes later to level things up.

Raul Jimenez then scored from the spot in the 69th minute and, after the hosts had Daniel Arreola sent off in the 75th minute, Benitez grabbed his second (77) to make sure of the points and take them top of the table on goal difference.

Tigres allowed them in as they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against local rivals Monterrey. Leobardo Lopez scored the only goal of the game a minute into the second half.

Santos Laguna missed out on the chance to join the leading pair on 32 points as they lost 1-0 at Cruz Azul, thanks to a 35th-minute goal from Christian Gimenez.

San Luis lifted themselves off the bottom of the table on goal difference with a 1-0 win over nine-man Tijuana. The visitors had Diego Olsina (53) and Juan Carlos Nunez (64) sent off, before Alan Zamora took advantage with a goal six minutes from the end.

Atlante replaced them at the bottom as they lost 1-0 against Leon, who joined them and San Luis on 13 points thanks to Edgar Pacheco's 78th-minute goal.
