Austrian club Rapid Vienna confirmed on Wednesday they have parted company with coach Peter Schottel after a succession of poor results.
Rapid have won just one of their last ten games in the Austrian Bundesliga to fall to third in the table, some 20 points behind leaders Austria Vienna with seven matches remaining.
A cup quarter-final defeat to regional league side Pasching on Tuesday was the final straw for Schottel, who had been in charge since the summer of 2011.
Schottel, a Rapid hero in his playing days, is replaced by reserve team coach Zoran Barisic.
Rapid are Austria's most successful club but have won the title just twice since 1996.
