Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat scored a late brace to secure Ajax Cape Town a 4-2 win over Free State Stars today and three vital points in the fight to avoid South African Premiership relegation.

Substitute Billiat struck after 86 and 90 minutes, with the 22-year-old attacking midfielder seeing Ajax ended a 120-day run without a victory that had left them second from bottom in the standings.

Success lifted them one place above Black Leopards - who now occupy the relegation play-off spot - while Cape Town rivals Chippa United remain last and in serious danger of going straight back to the second-tier after one season among the elite.

After trailing in the first half, Ajax went 3-1 ahead on 86 minutes only for Togo defender Sadat Ouro-Akoriko to pull one goal back with a long-range shot that flew over former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld.

But Billiat had the final say with a dazzling dribble into the box before passing and when the ball rebounded back into his path, he made no mistake at Athlone stadium.

Byron Hendricks put visiting Maritzburg United ahead close to half-time and Mduduzi Nyanda levelled just after the break for Bloemfontein Celtic in a 1-1 mid-table draw at Free State Stadium.
