China's elite clubs look to South America

China PR's football clubs are looking to snap up players from South America, with Shanghai Shenhua in talks with Rolando Schiavi and league champions Guangzhou Evergrande hoping to sign Elkeson, reports say.

Shanghai, who already boast former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, hope to sign the 39-year-old Boca Juniors defender Schiavi for the coming season, the Oriental Sports Daily reported, citing club owner Zhu Jun.

Schiavi, a former Argentina international, has already held talks with Shanghai's Argentine coach Sergio Batista, the paper said.

Meanwhile, Brazilian midfielder Elkeson is set to join Guangzhou Evergrande after being released by Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 23-year-old will travel to China on 4 January to meet Evergrande's Italian coach Marcelo Lippi and undergo a routine medical examination, Xinhua said.
