Bidvest Wits climbed six places to sixth in the South African Premiership table on Friday after a shock 1-0 victory at previously unbeaten Maritzburg United.
Calvin Kadi, who rejoined the Johannesburg club this season after spells in Portugal and Greece, snatched the winner on 62 minutes after a mix-up between goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters and Ghana-born defender Mohammed Awal.
Neither Maritzburg player cleared an Erwin Isaacs through ball and Kadi poked the ball into the net from an acute angle at Harry Gwala stadium in the KwaZulu Natal capital.
Wits, who had won only one of five other league matches this season under Spanish coach Antonio Lopez Habas, often looked dangerous when they counter attacked with the pace of Kadi particularly menacing.
It was the first time Maritzburg lost at home to Wits and the defeat saw them slip one place to fourth, four points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who host promoted Chippa United in Soweto Saturday.
