Adelaide United defender Daniel Mullen is expected to join the Chinese Super League's Dalian Aerbin after an agreement was reached between the clubs, the A-League side said Monday.
Mullen, 22, flew to China on Sunday with the finalisation of a two-year deal subject to him passing a medical exam, the Australian club said. Mullen has been an important part of Adelaide's defence, which conceded just two goals in the club's run to the quarter-finals of this year's AFC Champions League.
Adelaide United approved the move in a decision that football director Michael Petrillo said was taken in the best interests of Mullen and the club. "Dalian Aerbin came to us with a substantial fee for Daniel and he expressed his desire to head to China," Petrillo said.
"It was a decision we did not take lightly because Daniel is an integral part of our squad and it is a wonderful opportunity for him to further his career."
