Adelaar named Zilina manager

Dutchman Frans Adelaar has been named manager of Slovak league leaders MSK Zilina, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 51-year old Adelaar replaces Slovak Lubos Nosicky, who was sacked after a slide in form, notably Saturday's 2-2 draw with mid-table AS Trencin.

"The new coach will provide a good impulse for the team," Zilina's sporting director Karol Belanik said.

In the past, Adelaar has helmed clubs in his homeland, including top-flight sides FC Utrecht and ADO Den Haag, and second-tier Sparta Rotterdam.

Five-time Slovak titlists Zilina made it as far as the group stage of the 2010-2011 Champions League, where they finished behind Spartak Moscow, Marseille and Chelsea.

With six matches left this season, they currently top Slovakia's 12-club first division but only thanks to a better goal difference than second-placed Spartak Trnava.
