A-League leaders Central Coast Mariners needed a 90th-minute equaliser from substitute Troy Hearfield to snatch a 1-1 draw at home to Sydney FC today.

Joel Chianese put the visitors in front in the 56th minute, but Hearfield's late leveller took the Mariners three points clear of Brisbane Roar at the top of the table.

Jacob Pepper scored twice as Newcastle Jets won 3-1 at Melbourne Victory. Ryan Griffiths put the Jets ahead in the 20th minute, but Harry Kewell levelled from the penalty spot four minutes later.

Pepper's brace before the break put the Jets firmly back in control and Melbourne's challenge ended when they had Carlos Hernandez sent off eight minutes from time.
