Liberian refugee Teeboy Kamara, 15, was poised to make history today as the A-League's youngest player after making the bench for Adelaide's clash with Gold Coast United.

Kamara, who fled war-torn Liberia with his family as a six-year-old, said he was stunned at earning a place among the substitutes ahead of Friday night's match.

"Making my debut against Gold Coast United, I'm so happy," the Adelaide Advertiser quoted him as saying. "Hopefully I come on and play well."

If he plays, Kamara, who is aged 15 years and 212 days, will eclipse the record as the A-League's youngest player held by James Virgili, who was 16 years and 180 days old when he made his debut for the Newcastle Jets in 2009.

Kamara was selected as the youngest member of Australia's squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup earlier this year in Mexico.
