Both Germany and Bayern Munich will be without vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger for several weeks after the midfield star broke his collarbone on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off after 53 minutes of Bayern's 3-2 home win over Napoli in the UEFA Champions League and is expected to undergo an operation on Thursday.

The injury rules Schweinsteiger out of Germany's friendly against UEFA EURO 2012 co-hosts Ukraine in Kiev on Friday 11 November and against the Netherlands in Hamburg four days later.

"Of course, he will be missed as he is an important part of our midfield and was in great shape," admitted Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes after the win over Napoli.
