Kaizer Chiefs lost ground on South African Premiership leaders Supersport United on Tuesday as they were held to a goalless draw by Maritzburg United. The draw sees them in second place and four points adrift of Supersport.
Vladimir Vermezovic's side produced numerous chances in front of goal, but were denied by some determined defending from Maritzburg.
Vermezovic now has a chore ahead as he must maintain his players fitness for three weeks without a competitive game, while the Telkom Knockout Cup takes place - a competition in which they have already been knocked out of.
"We need to play a lot of friendly matches during this long break, just to sharpen up our strike force," said Vermezovic.
