Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez fears Hugo Rodallega will be out of action for several months after the Colombian forward suffered a suspected knee ligament injury in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Everton.
Rodallega was forced off in injury time and Martinez believes scans are likely to show he has ruptured the ligament in his right knee.
That would mean a long spell on the sidelines for Wigan's key forward, who scored the winner against Stoke City on the final day of last season to keep the Latics in the Premier League.
"It is too early to tell, but the signs are not good. It seems like it's a rupture of the medial ligament in his right knee," Martinez said. "He will have a scan in the morning, but it doesn't look a good one."
