If English midfielder David Beckham achieves his goal of winning a Major League Soccer crown in the last year of his contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, he will do it on the team's home pitch.

The 18-team North American football league announced Tuesday that the Home Depot Center, home field for the Galaxy, will play host to the MLS Cup championship game on 20 November.

"We would like nothing more than to be playing in MLS Cup 2011 at home in front of our fans," Galaxy president Tom Payne said.

The nearest that Beckham has come to a title in his five-season deal with the Galaxy came in 2009 when Los Angeles reached the final only to lose 5-4 on penalties to Real Salt Lake after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Galaxy lead the league this season at four wins, two losses, and four draws for 16 points. It will be the fourth time that MLS decides a champion at the facility, which seats 27,000 spectators and also hosted the MLS final in its inaugural year of 2003.
