Argentinian FIFA World Cup™ winning coach Cesar Menotti was in intensive care today suffering from lung problems a source at the hospital revealed.
The 72-year-old known fondly as the 'Thin One' and a heavy smoker guided Argentina to a thrilling FIFA World Cup success at home in 1978, defeating the Dutch 3-1 in extra time. Menotti also led the Under-20 side, including Diego Maradona, to similar success in their age group a year later.
He was also in charge of Argentina at the 1982 FIFA World Cup which ended in ignominy with Maradona sent off in the defeat by arch rivals Brazil in the second group stage where they went out of the competition.
Menotti, who quit as Independiente coach in September last year, coached Mexico and numerous clubs in South America and Europe, including Barcelona.
