Adelaide United progressed to the second stage of the A-League finals after a second-half goal from captain Travis Dodd secured a 1-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium today.
The Phoenix had the better of the chances for the majority of the match but failed to convert and Adelaide stole victory when Dodd struck with 20 minutes remaining.
The victory means Adelaide will host the winner of the match between Gold Coast United and Melbourne Victory in the A-League minor semi-final next weekend.
Phoenix started brightly with Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic needing to be at his best to deny Nick Ward after 21 minutes.
The visitors continued to dominate during the early exchanges in the second half but it was Adelaide who opened the scoring in the 70th minute when Dodd slotted home after racing on to Sergio van Dijk's pass.
The hosts then had to defend well as Phoenix chased an equaliser but were unable to find a breakthrough before the final whistle.
