Marcelo Bielsa quit as Chile coach yesterday, having led the national side to their first FIFA World Cup™ since the turn of the millenium.

"I have decided to resign from my post with the Chilean national team," said the 55-year-old Bielsa, who had been in charge for three years.

Bielsa guided Chile to the second round of last year's World Cup finals in South Africa, where they were defeated by Brazil. It was Chile's first appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 12 years.

His decision to quit came just one day after it was announced by the Chilean FA that the coach would remain in charge for the Copa America later this year.
