Saudi Arabia made a perfect start to their 2010 Gulf Cup of Nations campaign as they hammered hosts Yemen 4-0 in the opening match of Group A on Monday.
Saudi Arabia were the better side right from the start and opened the scoring after only four minutes through Osama Al Mowallad, before Mohamed Al Shalhoub made it 2-0 after 58 minutes.
Mohannad Asiri scored the third goal for Saudi Arabia from a penalty after 72 minutes, just two minutes before Yemen were reduced to ten men as Bassem Al Aqel received his second booking on the night. Meshal Al Saeed scored the fourth goal in the 90th minute.
In the same group, Kuwait edged 2011 AFC Asian Cup hosts Qatar 1-0 thanks to a 28th-minute goal from Yousef Nasser Al Salman. The first round of matches continues today as defending champions Oman meet Bahrain while Iraq play United Arab Emirates in Group B action.
