Adelaide United closed in on A-League leaders Brisbane Roar following a 2-0 win over Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park today.

Robbie Cornthwaite gave the Reds the lead after just five minutes when he headed home Cassio's inch-perfect cross.

Heart had chances to equalise after that with Gerald Sibon twice going close and Wayne Srhoj seeing his effort cleared by Travis Dodd.

But they were made to pay for their profligacy 17 minutes from time when Iain Ramsey's chipped effort was initially cleared by Aziz Behich only for Marcos Flores to pounce and fire home.

The three points means the Reds now trail Brisbane by just two points while Heart's sixth defeat of the season leaves them in fifth.
