Dino Djulbic's late goal extended Gold Coast United's unbeaten run to eight games with a 2-1 win over North Queensland Fury at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 11th minute when James Brown pulled the ball back for an unmarked Adama Traore to slot the ball into an empty net.

Mark Hughes levelled on the stroke of half-time when he headed home Ufak Talay's cross but Gold Coast claimed the points six minutes from time when Djulbic nodded in the winner.

That goal also claimed the Queensland Nickel Cup for Gold Coast, a trophy in its second season given to the winner of the derby between the two regional rivals.

Elsewhere, two second-half goals saw Melbourne Heart see off Newcastle Jets 2-0 at Port Macquarie Regional Stadium.

Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, Nick Kalamar's acrobatic effort after 53 minutes put the visitors in front.

Gerald Sibon then clinched the points from the spot in the last minute after Tarek Elrich had brought down Eli Babalj in the box.
