Palermo emphatically ended their winless run of results at La Favorita with a crushing victory against Bologna.

The Sicilian outfit were without a win at home in Serie A since 24 April heading into this match but turned the formbook on its head against a Bologna side defending a four-match unbeaten run. Goals from Javier Pastore and Josip Ilicic had the hosts cruising at the interval before Mauricio Ferreira Pinilla added a third two minutes after the restart.

Marco Di Vaio pulled one back for the visitors after 66 minutes but Armin Bacinovic restored Palermo's three-goal cushion inside the final ten minutes.

Palermo bossed proceedings from the first whistle and went close to opening their account on 12 minutes, Cesare Bovo crashing the ball against the crossbar after rising highest to meet Pastore's corner. The busy Pastore forced a good low save from Emiliano Viviano after 14 minutes but three minutes later the Palermo forward was celebrating the opener.

Picking the ball up outside the area, Pastore worked room for himself before drilling a fantastic effort beyond the fingertips of Viviano and into the top-right corner. The hosts doubled their lead on 24 minutes, and again it was an effort from distance doing the damage.

Ilicic's low effort lacked the power of Pastore's moments earlier, but Viviano was slow to get down and allowed the ball to slip under his body and into the net when he should have done better. Salvatore Sirigu maintained Palermo's 2-0 lead a minute before the break when he saved well from Gaston Ramirez, and two minutes after the interval the hosts went further ahead.

Federico Balzaretti's cross from the left wing created the opening for Pinilla, who could barely miss as he nodded home from close range. Di Vaio scored a goal out of nothing on 66 minutes to pull Bologna back into the match, the veteran firing home from the edge of the area.

But the final word went to the hosts, who added their fourth with seven minutes remaining when Bacinovic swept the ball home low beyond Viviano after being teed up by Antonio Nocerino.
