Cesena and Parma shared the spoils in a battle of struggling Serie A sides this afternoon.

Erjon Bogdani opened the scoring for the hosts in the 17th minute and Cristian Zaccardo equalised before the half-hour mark for Parma, who were looking for their first win on the road this season.

The visitors wasted several chances early in the second half and ultimately settled for a point.

Cesena went into the contest on a three-match losing streak. They enjoyed a strong start and took the lead when Bogdani latched onto Luis Jimenez's cross and his powerful header beat Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

Midway through the first half, Parma should have restored parity but Valeri Bojinov's header from the six-yard box went just wide.

Shortly after, Parma put a good move together with Bojinov meeting Stefano Morrone's pass before striking the ball from close range only for Cesena goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli to come up with a fine save.

Parma were then rewarded for their attacking display as Zaccardo's header from a corner went past Antonioli and into the back of the net. Blerim Dzemaili and Fernando Marques had the chance to give Parma the lead early in the second half but their efforts went wide.

The visitors should have taken the lead on the hour mark but Francesco Valiani's close-range volley from Marques' cross went inches wide of the far post.

With 12 minutes remaining, Mirante made a crucial save. The keeper cleared substitute Fabio Caserta's powerful strike from the heart of the area in what looked to be Cesena's second of the afternoon.

The outcome leaves Parma 19th in the standings, two points adrift of Cesena.
