Mirko Vucinic's goal midway through the second half against Switzerland secured Montenegro a third consecutive 1-0 win in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying and sent Zlatko Kranjcar's side three points clear at the Group G summit.
Roma forward Vucinic netted the game's only goal with a neat finish at the Stadion Podgorica to extend Montenegro's 100 per cent record after wins over Wales and Bulgaria last month. Kranjcar's side next face Fabio Capello's England at Wembley on Tuesday looking to open up a six-point cushion at the top.
After an uneventful first half, the decisive moment arrived in the 68th minute when Montenegro captain Vucinic played a one-two with Mitar Novakovic and then despatched a diagonal shot from the left side of the six-yard box across Marco Wolfli in the Swiss goal. Vucinic was cautioned for taking his shorts off and placing them on his head in celebration.
Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld made three attacking substitutions in the final half-hour in a bid to become the first team to break down the Montenegrin defence in the qualifying campaign. Two of the new faces, Hakan Yakin and Tranquillo Barnetta, combined 15 minutes from time to create the visitors' best chance, but an unmarked Barnetta somehow headed wide from Yakin's corner.
