Newcastle United's on-loan French winger Hatem Ben Arfa is set to miss most of the season after suffering a broken left leg in his side's 2-1 loss at Manchester City on Sunday.
Ben Arfa was caught early on by Manchester City's Nigel de Jong. A statement issued several hours after the final whistle by Newcastle confirmed the 23-year-old, on loan from Marseille, had broken the tibula and fibula bones and was now set for an operation.
"He will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday) morning," read the statement.
"Everyone connected with the club sends Hatem their best wishes for a speedy recovery. At this stage, no time limit has been put on his expected return date."
