Romania coach opts for experience

Romania coach Razvan Lucescu went for an experienced line-up when he named his 23-man squad today for the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against France in Paris on 9 October.

Stalwarts Cristian Chivu and Mirel Radoi were called on again but Lucescu also included Timisoara midfielder Ianis Zicu, who scored a double yesterday against Rapid Bucharest in the Romanian league, along with Lazio defender Stefan Radu, who have not featured for three and two years respectively.

"In Paris we'll play an important but not a decisive match. I'm convinced we'll return with a good result," said Lucescu. "A draw would be very good, but we're going with the desire to win."

Lucescu said that their chances of a result were improved by the fact that France are going through what he called a "period of transition".

"Change is underway and that could be an advantage for us," he added.
