AS Roma's French defender Philippe Mexes has had his three-match ban for blasting a match official after being sent off reduced to two games, the Italian football federation (FIGC) confirmed Friday. His fine has however been doubled to €20,000.
Mexes had already been yellow carded for a tackle on Brescia forward Eder in a Serie A game a week ago, and was sent off for a second booking on the Brazilian just after the hour mark.
On his way off the pitch the Frenchman started remonstrating with one of the touchline officials. Mexes has already missed the Serie A match against Inter Milan and will not play at Napoli on Sunday. He could now return against Genoa on 17 October.
