Iraq start with victory

Asian Cup champions Iraq came from a goal down to beat Yemen 2-1 in their opening match in Group C of this year's West Asian Football Federation Championship today.

Yemen opened the scoring after only 10 minutes through their striker Ali Al Nono before Samal Saeed levelled the scores for Iraq four minutes into the second half of the game.

Iraq sealed the win when Hawar Mulla Mohamed scored the winning goal with 18 minutes remaining before Iraq finished the game with 10 men as their defender Mohamed Qabel was sent off three minutes before the end.

The second round of matches in the competition will be played tomorrow as Oman meet Bahrain in group A while Kuwait take on Syria in group B action on the same night.
