Cagliari frustrate Bari

Bari dominated at San Nicola but were unable to find the necessary cutting edge in front of goal as Cagliari held on for a 0-0 draw in this Serie A clash.

After a slow start, the hosts gradually asserted control on the proceedings - but visiting goalkeeper Michael Agazzi had only one meaningful save to make as they were largely restricted to long-range efforts.

Cagliari made the brighter start, with Agazzia's opposite number Jean Francois Gillet saving Robert Acquafresca's header before Alex Pinardi, teed up by Andrea Cossu, shot narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

Bari's response came when Massimo Donati fired wide from 20 yards, and then Nico Pulzetti was narrowly off-target from the edge of the box. Belarus forward Vitaly Kutuzov then chanced his arm from 30 yards, but with a similar outcome to his two team-mates before him.

Pinardi was at the business end of a rare Cagliari attack but shot wide from the edge of the area. But Bari resumed their pressure ahead of the interval and Alessandro Parisi's inviting corner narroly eluded his team-mates before another flag-kick, delivered by Donati, was headed just wide by Andrea Raggi.

Cossu, impressive in a lacklustre Cagliari display, set up Andrea Lazzari to shoot narrowly wide five minutes after half-time. But normal service was resumed shortly afterwards when Bari's Abdelkader Ghezzal shot wide from 30 yards and Donati's clever pass allowed Parisi to test the under-employed Agazzi from outside the box.

Cossu curled a free-kick just wide from 20 yards, but that was the last seen of Cagliari as an attacking force. Pulzetti shot wide from the edge of the box before substitute Sergio Almiron went closer, skimming the right-hand post after meeting Vitor Barreto's cross with his right foot.

With time ticking down, the desperation started to show and Bari's composure in front of goal declined further. Algeria forward Ghezzal blazed over from ten yards with his left foot before Edgar Alvarez created the last chance of the game for Jose Ignacio Castillo. The substitute, though, also failed to find the target from inside the area.
