The German Football Federation (DFB) announced on Thursday they will face Australia in a friendly match in March 2011, three days after a UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Kazakhstan.
Few Australia fans will need reminding the last time their team met Germany, the Socceroos were hammered 4-0 in Durban at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ as the Germans went onto finish third in South Africa.
"We are pleased that so soon after the World Cup match in Durban, there will be a new showdown with Australia," said Germany coach Joachim Low. "The meeting will provide us give us the chance to look at some younger players from the Bundesliga and test them at international level."
The match will take place in Moenchengladbach on 29 March, three days after the Euro 2012 match against Kazakhstan in Kaiserslautern.
Australia have Holger Osieck as the current coach of the national side and the German has signed a four-year deal to take him through to the next FIFA World Cup. The 62-year-old was Franz Beckenbauer's assistant when the Germans won the 1990 FIFA World Cup title in Italy.
