New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert has signed a two-year contract extension following the All Whites' fairytale run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
New Zealand were the surprise package at the tournament, entering ranked a lowly 78th in the world but finishing as the only unbeaten team after draws in the group stage against defending champions Italy, Slovakia and Paraguay.
Herbert was seen as a major factor in the success of the team, appearing in only their second FIFA World Cup and New Zealand Football chairman Frank van Hattum said he was delighted with the new deal. "Reappointing Ricki is the first step on our new journey towards Brazil 2014," he said.
Under the deal, Herbert will remain at the helm until the Oceania phase of qualifying is complete in mid to late-2012, with a view to another extension until the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
