Wolfsburg have sold playmaker Zvjezdan Misimovic to Turkish side Galatasaray Istanbul, the Bundesliga club have announced.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has been sold for around €8.5 million and has signed a four-year contract, it was reported on the German outfit's website. After Wolfsburg signed Brazilian midfielder Diego from Juventus last week, Misimovic found himself surplus to requirements and team manager Dieter Hoeness had said they would not sell him to another Bundesliga club.
"We would like to thank 'Zwetschge' for his achievements and wish him every success," said Hoeness. "We have agreed he will come back after his first game in Turkey to say goodbye."
Schalke boss Felix Magath, who coached Wolfsburg to the Bundesliga title in 2009, had tried to bring Misimovic to Gelsenkirchen, but failed in his bid.
