Shinji Okazaki helped Shimizu S-Pulse beat Kawasaki Frontale 2-0 to close the gap on J-League leaders Nagoya Grampus today.
Japan international Okazaki fired home in the 47th minute after Jungo Fujimoto had opened the scoring with a penalty in the 16th minute.
Yesterday, Nagoya defeated bottom placed Kyoto Sanga 1-0 to maintain their lead on 44 points, ahead of Cerezo Osaka and Shimizu on 39 points, and defending champions Kashima Antlers on 37 points.
Cerezo Osaka defeated Omiya Ardija 2-0, while Kashima drew with Urawa Red Diamonds thanks to a Masashi Motoyama equaliser in injury time.
Elsewhere, Gamba Osaka whipped Jubilo Iwata 2-0. Midfielder Takahiro Futagawa quickly collected a rebound off an Iwata clearance and struck home to open the scoring for Gamba Osaka in the 18th minute. Defender Kazumichi Takagi made it two with a 76th-minute header.
Yokohama Marinos downed Albirex Niigata 3-0 in today's other game.
