Rueda takes up Ecuador challenge

Reinaldo Rueda was appointed coach of Ecuador on Wednesday, a week after he stepped down as Honduran handler, the president of the Ecuadorean Football Federation (FEF) announced.

Luis Chiriboga said that the 53-year-old Colombian - who won praise for his guiding Honduras to only their second FIFA World Cup™ finals this year but then saw them crash out in the first round - had been tasked with qualifying Ecuador for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals to be hosted by Brazil.

Rueda replaces Sixto Vizuete, who failed to get Ecuador to their third successive world finals after appearing at the 2002 and 2006 editions, reaching the second round in the latter one.
