The 38-year-old returns to the club where he enjoyed the most successful spell of his playing career, Stuttgart announced on their website.

He was the Bundesliga's top goalscorer in the 1995/96 season and was part of the Stuttgart side which was beaten by Chelsea in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup two years later. The former striker was also a member of the Germany squad which triumphed at EURO 96.
