Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima has completed his move from Kawasaki Frontale to Belgian side Lierse SK. The 27-year-old was a stand-out performer for the Samurai Blue at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and played in all four games in South Africa.
Kawashima follows in the footsteps of Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, who is the only other Japan goalkeeper to play in Europe having had spells with Portsmouth and Denmark's FC Nordsjaelland.
"I want to play all games for my new club in Belgium," he said. "After I experienced the World Cup, I thought that putting myself in a more competitive environment is the only way I can get better.
"It's been difficult for Japanese goalkeepers to ply their trade in Europe. I'll try to succeed and pave the way for other Japanese goalkeepers.''
