Former Czech Republic international Franz Straka has been appointed the new coach of A-League side North Queensland Fury.
The 52-year-old previously managed Sparta Prague in his home country as well as enjoying spells coaching top-flight clubs in Austria, Greece and Germany before taking charge of the Czech Republic national team last year.
"Franz Straka is an outstanding international coach and we are delighted to announce his appointment," said Fury chief executive Archie Fraser. "We were amazed with the quality of the candidates for the position in terms of their qualifications and international experience but Franz was always our first choice."
Straka, meanwhile, cannot wait to get started in his new job and set his sights on making Fury the fittest side in the A-League for the forthcoming 2010/11 season. "It is a very exciting opportunity and I look forward to working together with the staff and players to ensure a successful season for the Fury," he said.
"New players will have to adapt to the climate but I think this will be to our advantage as we will need to be the fittest team in the league to play in these temperatures consistently."
