Omonia Nicosia clinched their 20th Cypriot league title on Sunday after beating fierce capital rivals APOEL in a narrow 1-0 play-off victory.
Arguably the biggest club in Cypriot football and also known as the "people's team," Omonia pick up their first league trophy since 2003.
The club has invested heavily in new players and star forward and Cypriot international Stathis Aloneftis scored what turned out to be the winner on 17 minutes.
Soon after the final whistle at the GSP stadium Omonia fans took to the streets of the capital in celebration.
Omonia have now qualified for the UEFA Champions League, hoping to be the third Cyprus team in successive seasons to reach the group stages as APOEL Nicosia and Anorthosis have done before them.
Anorthosis in second place also failed to close the gap after drawing 0-0 in Limassol against Apollon lagging behind by seven points with only one game to go.
