Somali U-17s claim Kenyan scalp

There was joy in Somalia over the weekend as the country’s youngsters advanced to the second round of qualifiers for the CAF U-17 Championship at the expense of Kenya.

A 0-0 draw on Saturday sealed a 3-1 aggregate win for the Somalis and rounded off a huge footballing coup for the east African nation. The achievement was all the more remarkable as Somalia played for 50 minutes with just ten men, still managing to hold out for a draw that preserved the advantage they had built up in the first leg in Djibouti on 9 April.

Kenya's conquerors now march on to face north African giants Egypt in the next round of qualifiers on 27 August, and will be hoping for another upset as they aim to take their place in the continental finals in Rwanda next year.
