Former France midfielder Alain Giresse has been named the new coach of Mali.

The Mali Football Federation had been seeking a new coach after sacking Stephen Keshi following their first-round exit at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Giresse, who led Gabon to a good performance in that tournament, is due to arrive in the Mali capital, Bamako, in the next few days to discuss the terms of his contract.

"The executive committee has selected Alain Giresse as new coach of Mali," a statement from the the Mali Football Federation read. "He is expected to arrive in Bamako in the next few days for contract negotiations."
