Karim Bagheri's late goal saw Persepolis claim the spoils in the Tehran derby with a 2-1 win over Esteghlal at the Azadi Stadium on Wednesday.
Esteghlal took the lead 16 minutes into one of Asia's fiercest rivalries when skipper Farhad Majidi latched onto a long ball and fired through Alireza Haghighi's legs when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Persepolis levelled nine minutes before the break when Esteghlal defender Mehdi Amirabadi completely misjudged a bouncing ball and Hamid Ali-Askar took advantage to cross for Hadi Norouzi to sweep home inside the six-yard box.
Bagheri then netted the winner three minutes from time as he collected a pass 30 yards out before letting fly with a superb strike that found the top corner past despairing keeper Vahid Taleblou.
Elsewhere, three goals in the last 11 minutes saw Peykan complete a stunning fightback in a 3-3 draw with Mes. A Hamid Azizadeh strike and Faraz Fatemi's double saw the hosts cruising after 54 minutes but Alireza Abbasfard bagged a brace and Luiz also scored to peg back Mes.
