Leixoes were left mired in a relegation battle after they squandered a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 against Maritimo in a stormy match in the Liga Sagres on Monday.
Hugo Morais put the hosts ahead after just five minutes but Maritimo were level only five minutes later through Mourtala Diakite. Leixoes were then reduced to ten men with less than a quarter of an hour gone when da Silva Caue was shown a straight red card.
Maritimo took advantage with what turned out to be the winning goal by Pinheiro Kleber after 19 minutes. They too, though, went down to ten men when Diakite was sent off for a second bookable offence after an hour but they held out to establish themselves in mid-table and leave their opponents second from bottom.
