Albirex Niigata overcame a two-goal deficit in the last two minutes to hold defending champions Urawa Red Diamonds to a 2-2 draw in the J-League.
Substitute forward Kazuhisa Kawahara pulled one back with a header on a Jun Uchida cross in the 88th minute, before Atomu Tanaka evened the score in injury time with a right-foot shot from eleven metres out.
Yuichiro Nagai had put Urawa ahead in the 30th minute, and Brazilian striker Washington made it 2-0 with a fierce shot shortly after the hour mark.
After two games each into the season, Nagoya Grampus Eight, Shimizu S-Pulse and Gamba Osaka lead the table with two straight wins, followed by Urawa, Kashiwa Reysol, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Kawasaki Frontale with one win and a draw.
Brazilian Magno Alves, last year's top goal scorer, netted his first goal of the season in the 66th minute as Osaka beat Kashima Antlers 1-0.
"I'm glad that I scored while we hadn't many chances. I was checked severely and I couldn't find a space to go through. We didn't win at this stadium for six years. That's what I'm happiest about the win," said Magno Alves.
Another Brazilian, Leandro, struck home an equalizer in the 61st minute as Vissel Kobe drew with Kawasaki Frontale 1-1.
On Saturday, Nagoya defeated Ventforet Kofu 2-0 while Shimizu defeated JEF United Chiba 3-1.
