Former Romanian international great Dan Petrescu was banned on Wednesday from the dugout for two matches as the manager of Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni was penalised for an angry outburst last weekend.

The 41-year-old - who guided Unirea to their first ever title last season - became incandescent with rage with the referee after Sunday's Romanian Super Cup which Unirea lost to Cluj in a penalty shoot-out.

Petrescu, capped 95 times and who numbered Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday among his clubs, pulled off a stunning success with Unirea last term with a team that had spent just three seasons in the First Division - quite a feat for a town of just 17,000 inhabitants and a stadium capacity of 7,000.

Petrescu - who will be taking Unirea into a maiden UEFA Champions League campaign - will have to watch from the stands the matches against Cluj and Rapid Bucharest.
