Xu Liang's second-half penalty enabled Guangzhou Guangyao to salvage a 1-1 draw with Chinese Super League leaders Beijing Guoan at Yuexiushan Stadium. Yan Xiangchuang put Beijing in front three minutes before the interval, but Brazilian striker Diego earned a penalty for the hosts after 64 minutes, which Xu converted.

Beijing pressed from the outset and just five minutes into the game, an unmarked Yang Hao latched on to Honduran Emil Martinez's cross from the right, but his close-range shot was blocked by Li Yan.

Joel Griffiths then rose highest to meet Martinez's corner, but his header flew over the crossbar. However, late in the first-half Griffiths collected a long ball from Zhang Yonghai before knocking it into the path of the unmarked Yan, who calmly found the back of the net.

The hot weather dented my players' performance... but one point is still acceptable.
Beijing Guoan manager Lee Jang-soo

Wu Pingfeng worried Beijing keeper Yang Zhi with a long-range effort on the hour mark which flew just wide, but three minutes later Zhu Yifan's challenge on Diego in the box helped Guangzhou earn a point as Xu made no mistake from the spot.

"The hot weather dented my players' performance because they looked tired in the second half," said Beijing's Korean manager Lee Jang-soo. "But one point is still acceptable."
