Kenton opts for strongest squad

Costa Rica coach Rodrigo Kenton has named his strongest possible 25-man preliminary squad for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup, despite saying the tournament was not a priority.

Kenton had said earlier this month that he would treat the Gold Cup only as preparation for the resumption of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers, but has included 22 players who were part of the recent qualifiers against the USA and Trinidad and Tobago.

Liberia defender Leonardo Gonzalez, Brujas midfielder Yosimar Arias and Admira Wacker forward Froylan Ledezma, meanwhile, have been recalled to the national set-up.

The squad will be cut to 23 players by the time the Gold Cup gets under way on 3 July. Costa Rica have been drawn in Group A with Canada, El Salvador and Jamaica.

The Ticos will face El Salvador in the tournament's opening game at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
