Galatasaray playing legend Bulent Korkmaz resigned as their coach on Wednesday, the Turkish first division side announced.
The 40-year-old replaced German coach Michael Skibbe in February this year on a one-and-a-half year contract.
However, Galatasaray finished the season a poor fifth in the league and had a disappointing run in the UEFA Cup, being eliminated by Hamburg in the first round following the group stage.
Korkmaz spent his entire career at Galatasaray and played 102 times for his country. He joined First Division side Genclerbirligi as coach in 2005, moving on to Kayseri Erciyesspor and Bursaspor.
Galatasaray have been attempting to secure the services of Juande Ramos, lately of Real Madrid, or Dutchman Co Adriaanse formerly of Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, Turkish media reported on Wednesday.
