Urawa Reds came from behind with two late goals to beat Kashiwa Reysol 3-2 and go top of the J.League today.
Brazilian striker Edmilson opened the scoring, but Kashiwa hit back with goals from Hideaki Kitajima and Naoki Ishikawa before half-time. However, a Yuzo Kobayashi own-goal made it 2-2, before Sergio Escudero stroked home the decider with three minutes to go.
"It is not easy to win in such bad conditions. I think it's like a gift to us," said Urawa's German coach Volker Finke.
"The pitch was slippery and difficult to play. But it's wonderful that we came back from behind to win like this and it is the most important thing. We showed the team's strong mentality."
Urawa now have 23 points from ten matches, three above defending champions Kashima Antlers, who were playing in the AFC Champions League.
In today's other league games, Omiya Ardija defeated Oita Trinita 3-0, Kyoto Purple Sanga overcame Yokohama Marinos 2-0, and Vissel Kobe ran out 3-1 winners over Montedio Yamagata.
Shimizu S-Pulse drew with JEF United Chiba 2-2 thanks to Takuma Edamura's late equaliser, while Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeated FC Tokyo 2-0.
