Australian A-League club Perth Glory have signed fringe Socceroo midfielder Jacob Burns for three seasons and unveiled plans for more signings, coach Dave Mitchell said on Monday.
Mitchell said Burns, 31, who has played nine internationals, was keen to leave Romanian club Unirea and return home after nine years playing abroad, three of them with Leeds United.
Glory, looking to rebuild ahead of the new season kicking off in August after finishing second-last in the eight-team league last season, have ambitious plans for some high-profile recruits.
The Perth-based club has been linked with former Uruguay international Alvaro Recoba, Derby County defender Andy Todd and former Arsenal and Barcelona Dutch star Marc Overmars.
Mitchell was guarded when asked on Monday whether any of those targets were close to signing.
"In the pipeline, there's a lot of things happening behind the scenes," he said. "We are out there looking for quality and you virtually have to have ten players on the line to sign one or two.
"There are some good players who are going to be released shortly and we will be in the frame for them."
